SUNSHINE AT TWILIGHT

The spun sum of their love's long dawn
moves like teasing, tickled time from room to room--
now with the holy tread of vesper communion;
now, still, with the lusty dance of bride and groom.

The seed-cell thrust that fleshed their dreams
shrined their troth and trust in joy-joined touch and bone.
Her glance, that wraps their warmth and glow around their friends,
spells his work-woed body to its own proud throne.

The first faith still ribbons their days,
weaving pledge and caress into breath and act,
as time's gray unwinding ticks, ticks between their hearts
songs that hymn and herald their abiding pact.
